PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Corporate Accounting, the Junior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting functions of the Corporate group. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

•    Assist with month end close process including preparation of journal entries, cost allocations, recurring entries and accruals;
•    Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations including coordination with Aecon business units and shared services to deal with variances;
•    Intercompany reconciliation preparation including confirmation of intercompany balances with other Aecon business units and coordination of transactions;
•    Prepare monthly HST, GST, PST, and QST returns, their filing and reconciliation. Participate and provide information to tax team during CRA audits;
•    Account analysis and preparation of working papers and schedules; 
•    Build and maintain Business Objects reports used for monthly and quarterly reporting; 
•    Assist with interim and year-end audit and reporting requirements;
•    Document and ensure continuous process improvements are applied within areas of responsibility; and
•    Participate in special projects and initiatives as required. 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

 

•    Up to 2 years of accounting experience;
•    New university graduates from an accounting program are encouraged to apply;
•    Related Post-Secondary education; working towards an accounting designation (i.e. CPA);
•    Demonstrated computer software proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills would be a strong asset;
•    Knowledge of computerized accounting systems, specifically related to SAP and BI;
•    Excellent and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work environment;
•    Strong analytical and interpersonal skills;
•    Ability to work effectively in a team;
•    Ability to clearly and effectively communicate information and clarify requirements both orally and in writing; and
•    Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.
