Position Title:  Legal Counsel (Litigation)

Position Overview

Aecon is well-positioned in the Canadian marketplace as an industry leader in the development and construction of infrastructure. We have a roster of ongoing major projects here and abroad, record backlog diversified across multiple sectors and duration, and a robust pipeline of future project pursuits. We are in a strong market position, but we are ultimately aiming higher. 


Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, we are seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to join our team on a full-time basis. This individual will provide representation, guidance, and advise on Aecon's on-going projects. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on change/variation issues during project execution and post-execution phases.
  • Liaise between business unit / project leaders and external counsel on complex claims and litigation files.
  • Liaise with joint venture legal committees.
  • Actively manage and give instructions to external counsel on claims and litigation files.


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society in the jurisdiction of practice.
  • Post-call legal experience: 3-10 years.
  • Experience with complex commercial and/or construction litigation.
  • Civil engineering background and/or fluency in French are assets, but not required.
  • Construction and/or engineering industry experience, including with respect to contracts, are assets, but not required.
  • Verbal reasoning skills, ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, case decisions.
