What's The Opportunity: 
Reporting to the Direct, Operations Legal – Project Execution and Claims we are seeking a seasoned lawyer to join our team on a full-time basis. This individual will provide representation, guidance, and advise on Aecon's on-going projects. 

 

What You'll Do: 
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on a range of contractual issues during project execution and post-execution phases.
  • Identify potential risks associated with projects and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Liaise between business unit / project leaders and external counsel on complex claims and litigation files.
  • Liaise with joint venture legal committees.
  • Actively manage and give instructions to external counsel on claims and litigation files.

 

What You Bring to The Team
Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society in the jurisdiction of practice.
  • Post-call legal experience: 5-10 years.
  • Experience with complex commercial and/or construction-related litigation.
  • Civil engineering background and/or fluency in French are assets, but not required.
  • Construction and/or engineering industry experience, including with respect to contracts, are assets, but not required.
  • Verbal reasoning skills, ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, case decisions.
