Purpose of the Position

The Manager, HR will provide trusted and valued support to the business by fulfilling Corporate and Concessions client group requirements through talent acquisition, workforce planning, employee relations, compensation, HR programs, governance, employee experience, learning and talent development planning and initiatives in matrixed environment.

 

What You’ll Do Here:

Business Readiness Planning & Talent Acquisition

  • Lead business readiness activities by assessing skills gaps, planning internal/external talent needs, and developing mobilization, demobilization, rotation, and succession plans using data-driven insights.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners across sectors to identify available Aecon talent and support strategic resource planning.
  • Work with leaders to evaluate resourcing requirements and determine when to prioritize internal development and mobility versus external recruitment.
  • Champion internal talent mobility by identifying employees with transferable skills and promoting career opportunities across projects and client groups.
  • Collaborate with leaders to forecast near- and mid-term role requirements and work with Talent Acquisition community of expertise to ensure a clear talent pipeline.
  • Provide guidance to the Talent Acquisition team on Pay Transparency adherence aligned with internal Job Structure.
  • Work collaboratively with Talent Acquisition team to maintain and monitor project staffing lists as applicable to provide an accurate, proactive view of resource needs.

 

Learning and Talent Development

  • Analyze client groups requirements and skills shortages/gaps in the organization and industry to determine strategy for learning and development programs to close the gaps
  • Partner with Leadership & OD group to rollout innovative programs and/or approaches to meet talent development needs
  • Maximize employee engagement and development through deliberate career opportunities
  • Maintain a pulse on workforce concerns or developments and provide pragmatic and timely solutions to address issues that impact the attainment of business objectives
  • Facilitate regular talent reviews with business leaders, with a focus on action and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to Leaders on goal setting to maximize employee performance and reach organizational goals.

 

HR Programs, Governance and Employee Experience

  • Support the development and roll-out of various corporate and operational HR initiatives as required
  • Leverage Aecon’s Employee Recognition programs
  • Lead client group Engagement Survey insights discussions and support leaders to develop robust engagement action plans with staff involvement.
  • Build strong relationships with HR counterparts on JVs where applicable to ensure ongoing collaboration and effective support of Aecon’s seconded employees.
  • Actively monitor and engage with seconded employees on JVs where applicable to ensure a strong pulse on movement, retention, and engagement of Aecon’s talent.
  • Ensure that the interests of employees and company are considered in accordance with HR policies, and applicable government laws and regulations (e.g. ESA, Human Rights Legislation).

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Complete compensation analysis for workforce transitions and present recommendations to business leaders (ex. new hires, promotions, transfers)
  • Provide informed guidance on compensation practices (annual increases, off-cycles, STIP adjustments, etc.) within the SBU, leveraging the Total Rewards group for collaborative input.  Ensure alignment to Aecon’s overall Job Structure within the assigned SBU to maintain equity and consistency across the organization.    

 

 

Project HR Work (As Required) 

  • Support the Project bid team for all HR related requests (e.g. providing labour rates, developing workforce plans, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders within the Project, partner and client groups, so as to be able to identify and respond to current and future people related requirements
  • Lead core HR Infrastructure development requirements for the project company
  • Lead/support workforce planning ramp up activities including developing/collaborating on HR transition plans for existing staff, project mobilization / demobilization plans
  • Partner with Aecon’s Immigration and Mobility/and or local immigration agencies to facilitate workforce transitions
  • Assist project leaders with resource planning needs and determining the need and/or opportunity for internal talent mobility vs external talent sourcing
  • Partner with Aecon’s Talent Acquisition team and local staffing agencies to support current and future talent needs for the Project
  • Lead/support the rollout of learning programs/or approaches to meet project talent development needs

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in a progressive HR management role
  • Team management experience preferred
  • International/US HR accountabilities an asset
  • Exposure to expatriate management and international mobility is strongly desired
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related field
  • Ability to travel internationally on a frequent, scheduled and ad-hoc basis as required with notice (approximately once a month in peak times)
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in large, complex, and diverse operating environments.  Ability to demonstrate strong personal performance and delivery of HR solutions
  • Experience with working in a matrixed environment and engaging/obtaining buy-in from various stakeholders
  • Experience with Compensation structures, job analysis and job evaluation 
  • Comfort with and understanding of process improvement methods
  • Demonstrated success working with complex partners, competitors, and internal/ external stakeholders
  • Experience directly supporting a P3/EPC/Major project and an understanding of how a contractor makes money on any major projects.
  • Experience with complex legal concepts, including employment contracts, employment standards claims, independent contractor agreements.

 

Aecon have a hybrid working policy with three days per week in the office. 

Salary range - $110,000 - $120,000 per annum

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
