Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Planner Scheduler, or Project Controls Lead and working closely with the Project Manager and Operations , the Planner/Scheduler will be responsible for the development and maintenance of comprehensive project schedules during the project development, execution, and close-out phases. Throughout the project life cycles, the Planner/Scheduler will gather and interpret data from a variety of sources to conduct schedule analysis and provide essential reporting to support the project team to ensure successful completion of assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and review project drawings, project scope and estimates.
- Communicate with the project manager and project team to generate an outline of the project execution plan, schedule WBS, schedule level of detail.
- Develop integrated schedules using Primavera for various projects & their different stages as appropriate (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning).
- Generate comprehensive schedules in a variety of formats and details to satisfy different user requirements.
- Identify the critical path & near critical path within the schedules.
- Interface the schedule with the project budget and resource load it with labour and material resources based on the project approved budget hours and quantity.
- Ensure Aecon as well as Client Standards for Scheduling are aligned.
- Develop various project controls reports as required (Bar Charts, S-curves, Productivity, Manpower histogram, Commodity curves, etc.).
- Review and analyze the schedules submitted by other parties contributing to the project.
- Update project schedule monitor actual progress and compare the updates with the baseline and report progress against schedule in the required format.
- Analyze project schedule issues and propose corrective actions for timely completion of the project.
- Analyze productivity, trends and forecasts and update their impact on the schedule, project budget and cost.
- Attend management, project team and client meetings as required providing the necessary project control reports.
- Generate cost engineering/control deliverables including preparation of budget, tracking of actual costs against budget and performing variance analysis studies.
- Keep track of change orders and extra work orders.
- Support training and development of junior schedulers.
- Assist the project manager in preparing project forecast reports.
- Assist the project team in developing the required look ahead planning on site.
- Provide planning support to proposals team.
- Provide support to the project controls staff.
- Able to travel to remote job or work location.
- Extended project assignments out of town as required.
- Variety of jobsite conditions (tunnels, trenches/excavations, heights, industrial facilities, noise, heat, cold, ladders, fall protection equipment, etc.)
- Extended work weeks on project assignments (6 days or longer on rotation).
- Repetitive movement.
- Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Excellent knowledge of Primavera P6.
- Experience in Linear Scheduling with TILOS is an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of Earned Value principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
- Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge.
- Detail-oriented and customer-focused.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Post-secondary education - Bachelor of Science (Engineering discipline).
- Between three and five (3 to 5) years of related experience.
- Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license.
