What Is The Opportunity?
Aecon is seeking a Project Controls Director to join the Urban Transportations Solutions group to support dynamic, transit projects in Canada. What You'll Do Here:
- Overall responsibility for project’s compliance to Aecon’s Project Controls standards and applicable contract documents.
- Establish and maintain the project’s integrated Project Controls systems, oversee the setting of the cost and schedule baseline.
- Lead meetings focused on communicating project performance status to the wider project team.
- Lead a team of Project Controls staff specializing in planning, scheduling, cost control, change management and risk management.
- Support Project Managers in tracking overall project health; establish and maintain communication plan to ensure accurate and timely flow of information.
- Provide input into the continuous improvement of Aecon’s Project Controls policies and guidelines.
- Oversee analysis and reporting of project performance key metrics (e.g. CPI, SPI, key commodity tracking, etc.); propose corrective actions to maintain performance/productivity; provide timely alerts on adverse trends.
- Implement and maintain an Earned Value Management plan to measure project performance, identify variances, and inform accurate forecasting.
- Lead the development of project-specific Project Controls plans, documenting processes and procedures to be followed on the project.
- Lead the development and implementation of a project-specific change management plan, ensuring compliance with contract conditions and Aecon’s standards.
- Provide support to Commercial and Procurement teams on subcontractor claims assessment, client claims development, negotiations and dispute resolutions.
- Provide commercial and technical expertise to support proposal development and provide commercial input into contractually defined project control requirements.
- Ensure adherence to all contract conditions regarding Project Controls requirements, project set-up, monitoring and close-out.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with client counterparts and joint venture stakeholders (where applicable).
- Conduct annual performance reviews and provide constructive feedback; implement performance improvement plans as needed with support from HR.
- Participate in project-level resource planning, utilization analysis and resource leveling; manage and maintain Project Controls staffing plan forecasts.
- Develop a project specific Risk Management Plan for incorporation into the Project Controls Plan.
- Establish cadence for risk reviews and lead risk review meetings to identify, evaluate and update risks that may have a cost and/or schedule impact.
- Assist risk owners in establishing, implementing and tracking mitigating actions and contingency plans.
- Establish quantitative risk analysis (QRA) cadence; oversee QRA and articulate the results and variance analysis to project leadership.
What You Bring To The Team:
- Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent.
- 15+ years construction industry experience.
- Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating and cost control.
- Strong knowledge of the “Earned Value Management” principles.
- Ability to produce, read and modify schedules and scheduling curves/reports.
- Natural leader and team builder who can build strong relationships quickly.
- Proven ability to effectively lead project controls staff.
- Proven strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues.
- Proven problem solver with sound judgment who accepts ownership and accountability.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
- Detail oriented and customer focused.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of SAP and required project controls software which may include Primavera, Hard Dollar, Accubid.
