Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) a division focusing on engineering design and management, employing more than 100 engineers, technicians, project managers and clerical staff. AUE’s design expertise covers the full spectrum of underground and overhead design and project management services for all types of utility construction including Oil & Gas Transmission, Distribution, and Storage, Hydro Electric Distribution and Transmission, Telecommunications, and District Energy Systems.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Hydro Distribution and/or Telecommunications, the Project Designer, Co-Op will be responsible for assisting in all facets of design for our existing and perspective Utility clients.

 

Note, this is a 12 - 16 month Co-Op position starting in May 2021.
 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist with the completion of design calculations and drawings that satisfy all the applicable code and regulation requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of schedules, estimates and construction packages.
  • Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
  • Assist in the coordination, and submission of as-built drawings.
  • Gather field information and assist in the preparation of project bill of materials.
  • Administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning and plotting.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Travel to site locations will be required.

 

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (Third Year Preferred).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Proven people and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals. 
  • Proven ability to utilize current technologies, i.e. computer skills. 
  • Proven ability to take initiative and leadership. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • AutoCAD skills would be an asset.
