Aecon is currently seeking a Senior Estimator - MEP and Sytems to join the Urban Transportation Systems team.Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Mechanical & Electrical Senior Estimator will be responsible for performing M & E and systems estimates for Urban Transportation Systems group of Aecon.


Key Responsibilities  

  • Responsible for the preparation and documentation of project estimates using estimating package and following estimating policy and procedures.
  • Accountable for accuracy of multi discipline estimates and related ancillary information
  • Coordinate work affecting M & E and systems discipline estimates
  • Ability to understand issues that could arise with the integration of all systems.
  • Ability to understand the interfaces between the rail systems and M & E packages
  • Ability to understand the testing and commissioning of the M & E equipment and systems
  • Assist in establishing and pricing of indirect costs
  • Provide information to support detailed scheduling
  • Responsible for accuracy of bid cost to actual cost of work performed. Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of projects awarded
  • Analyzes documents, drawings, specifications, proposals, addendums in preparation for pricing
  • Performs any estimate related oral and/or written communications with clients
  • Reviewing project site prior to price preparation
  • Obtains input from Operations staff as appropriate
  • Performs detailed quantity take-off from construction drawings where applicable
  • Obtains pricing from suppliers and Subcontractors, and incorporate into estimate
  • Formulates all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts
  • Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions
  • Present all aspects of M & E and rail systems scope (e.g. timing, constraints, risks, and potential cost saving opportunities and alternatives) to internal staff
  • Lead estimate closings for large complex projects
  • Coach and mentor junior estimators
  • Prepares and/or reviews project budgets at estimating close out to operations so cost reporting is impactful for future estimating needs.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Professional memberships are considered an asset


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of five (5 to 10) years progressive estimating experience in M & E disciplines
  • Preference will be given to candidates that possess both relevant trade experience and technical education
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments
  • Attention to detail, mathematical, analytical skills and accuracy
  • Proficiency using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access):  experience with packaged estimating software is an asset
  • Service orientation and ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external clients
  • A degree in engineering, systems technology, or equivalent education is required
  • On site experience with a main contractor is required
  •  Knowledge and/or experience of the transportation environment would be useful
  •  Expertise in high value M & E packages more than $150M
  •  Ability to work well as part of a team
  •  Ability to work in a collaborative manner
  •  Ability to manage stakeholder expectations effectively
  •  Strong understanding of the business, client’s priorities and balances accordingly
  •  Ability to address performance issues quickly and effectively
  •  Active Listening and excellent communication skills
