Reporting to the Vice President, Estimating & PMO, the Senior Estimator (Traffic / Electrical) will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost of labour, equipment and materials for supply and installation, as well as, responsible for the direction, preparation and documentation of work execution estimates for construction projects across the Utilities sector, with a specific focus on traffic signalization, illumination, ATMS, transportation electrical and distribution hydro.

Key Responsibilities 
•    Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of awarded projects.
•    Analyzes documents, specifications, addendums and quotations in preparation for pricing.
•    Performs any estimate related oral and/or written communications with clients.
•    Reviewing project site prior to price preparation.
•    Collaborates effectively with Operations, PMO, Finance and Owners staff as appropriate.
•    Performs quantity take-off from construction drawings where applicable.
•    Obtains pricing from Suppliers / Subcontractors and incorporates into estimate. 
•    Formulates all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
•    Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
•    Oversees the distribution of appropriate documentation appropriately upon award of project.
•    Tracks, forecasts, and reports on the financial and operational performance of selected projects and provides data to support forecasts and month-end closings.
•    Manages Scope Changes as required.
•    Coordinates invoicing / progress payment activities where required.
•    Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
•    Provides technical support to field staff as appropriate.
•    Collaborates with Operations and PMO to drive project success and learning.
•    Drives Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
•    Conducts Bid Closing and Bid Handover meetings as required.
•    Performs Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and ensures that associated learnings are captured, and that appropriate internal communication takes place.
•    Assists with Prequalification, RFQ and RFI submissions as required.
•    Incorporates / complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
•    Drives positive relationships and serves as a key contact with Clients, Consultants, and key Subcontractors.
•    Protects all forms of proprietary information.
•    Maintains Aecon Estimating data systems, to ensure they are kept up to date and at optimal efficiency.
•    May assist in conducting interviews when additional estimating staff is required.
•    Actively mentor less seasoned Estimating staff on an ongoing basis.
•    Monitors for market opportunities.
•    Works with cost codes, project productivity and project control systems when required.
•    Lead RFP’s – creation / submission / negotiation.
•    Assist in post tender negotiations with subtrades.
•    Prepares recommendations for award of Purchase Orders and Subcontracts.
•    Customer contact dealing with site meetings, project management, negotiating contracts, resolving disputes and general communication.
•    Frequent contact with the public (Job sites visits, Clients, Consultants, Sub trades).
•    Develops and maintains positive relations with Operations, Owners, Consultants and Sub traded.
•    Office environment.
•    Ability to work long hours.
•    Ability to carry drawing and diaries, use stairs, ladders, climb rough terrain when visiting site
•    Travel required to and from owner offices, work sites and for pre-tender site review.
•    Out of town/overnight travel required from time to time as require.
•    Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Knowledge and Experience
•    Diploma / Degree – Mechanical / Civil / Electrical.
•    Minimum 7 years estimating experience in work types as indicated
•    Understanding of affiliated electrical systems an asset.
•    Skills allow for working independently with little supervision.
•    Prior operational experience an asset.
•    Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
•    Thorough knowledge of contract language / Terms and Conditions / Surety etc.
•    Thorough knowledge of associated Trades labour agreements / working rules.
•    Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting / reporting.
•    Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
•    Strong computer skills – MS Excel / Word / MS Outlook, MS Teams, Primavera and estimating software’s.
•    Strong communication skills – oral and written.
•    Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure.
•    Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
•    Ability to work with others as a team.
•    Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
•    Professional designation an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T., CTech).
