What Is the Opportunity?

Aecon’s Corporate teams play a critical role in enabling success of Aecon’s operating sectors and major infrastructure projects across North America and internationally. Through multidisciplinary expertise, functional services and strategic partnership– our teams collaborate with executive leadership, operations, and project teams in a dynamic, matrixed environment to solve complex challenges and drive results.

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Payroll Accounting, the Pension & Benefits Accounting Specialist is responsible for the accounting, reconciliation, analysis, and remittance processes related to pension and benefits accounts. The role maintains an accounting-heavy focus through ownership of General Ledger reconciliations, preparation of accounting documentation, support for journal entries, maintenance of internal controls, and timely remittance of pension and benefits payments to applicable vendors, carriers, trustees, and regulatory entities.

 

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Prepare, validate, and remit pension and benefits payments to applicable vendors, carriers, trustees, and regulatory entities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Reconcile and balance pension and benefits remittances to payroll, vendor invoices, source data, and General Ledger accounts on a monthly or quarterly basis, as required.
  • Liaise with government agencies, pension administrators, benefits providers, and other third parties as required to resolve remittance, reconciliation, and accounting matters.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of all pension and benefits General Ledger accounts.
  • Prepare accounting journal entries when required, along with the appropriate analysis and supporting documentation involved with such preparation.
  • Research and respond to third party audit inquiries and internal operational inquiries on a timely basis.
  • Assist with year-end processing, validation and balancing of T4’s, T4A’s, Releve 1’s, W2’s and year end filings to applicable government bodies.
  • Recognize opportunities and have the knowledge to make recommendations for change.
  • Maintain key internal control documentation, including evidence of review, reconciliation, remittance approval, and issue resolution.
  • Document pension and benefits accounting and remittance processes.
  • Facilitate sessions with stakeholders to identify and deliver process improvements while maintaining appropriate accounting controls.
  • Provide second-level support on escalation of vendor related service issues.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of improved processes and procedures.
  • Work with Internal and External Auditors, provide documentation as required
  • Work on projects and process improvements as required.

 

What You Bring to The Team:

  • 3 – 5 years of book keeping experience and accounting.
  • Post-secondary school education in an accounting or business related field.
  • Enrolled in or completion of CPA payroll designation course preferred.
  • Above average working knowledge of an integrated management information computer system, such as SAP.
  • Possess a high attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under tight time lines.
  • Technical systems skills, as relates to payroll/HR, with third party payroll providers and HR/Payroll systems.
  • Strong communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, probe, analyze, and solve complex problems.

 

This role follows a hybrid work model, combining in‑office collaboration and flexibility, with an expectation of three days per week in the office.
