What is the Opportunity?

As the Data Steward, you will be a key member of the BPMO – Enterprise Analytics and Data Governance (EADG) team, partnering with IS, business units, and data product owners to ensure our enterprise data is trusted, high-quality, well-documented, and discoverable.

You will steward enterprise metadata, manage business definitions, maintain data lineage, and support the establishment of a consistent and governed data landscape. Leveraging enterprise tools, you will help modernize our data governance capabilities and strengthen enterprise data literacy.

What You’ll Do Here:

Metadata & Governance Ownership

  • Establish and provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge on enterprise data models, data standards, definitions, and governance best practices.
  • Own and maintain the Business Glossary and Data Dictionary, ensuring consistent terminology and clear data definitions across the enterprise.
  • Work with Information Services (IS) to maintain visibility into the current data inventory and data landscape.

Data Quality, Classification & Standards

  • Collaborate with data owners and Information Security to define, co-own, and enforce data classification policies (e.g., sensitivity, confidentiality, business value).
  • Partner with business units to define and operationalize data standards for critical data elements (CDEs).
  • Monitor, validate, and steward metadata to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with enterprise data policies.

Data Discovery, Profiling & Issue Management

  • Support data discovery efforts by partnering with SMEs to locate analytical data in source systems and validate its contextual meaning.
  • Provide profiling information and data lineage to help users understand data quality, fitness for use, and business context.
  • Document, track, and resolve data issues raised by end users to maintain data relevancy and trust.
  • Ensure data assets are properly categorized and enriched with metadata for improved discoverability.

Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Continuously refine cataloging and metadata processes for usability, scalability, and alignment with evolving data architecture.
  • Advocate for standardized intake and prioritization processes for metadata, quality fixes, and glossary updates.
  • Work closely with Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and business SMEs to support governed data access and improved data literacy.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Business Technology Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Certifications in Data Governance/Data Management (e.g., DAMA, CDMP, DCAM) are not required, but they are considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, or Data Analysis.
  • Experience with master data management, data cataloging, metadata management, and enterprise data quality.
  • Experience with IBM Match 360, IBM Watsonx Data Intelligence, or similar governance/MDM platforms (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica) is a strong asset.
  • Experience with SQL and data modeling tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SAP or construction-related business systems, especially Oracle/Primavera P6, is an asset.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to organize and make sense of complex data landscapes.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to explain complex data concepts in clear, non-technical terms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply governance principles pragmatically while supporting business needs.
