We are seeking for a HVAC Design Engineer, reporting to the Director of Green Energy Solutions, who will draw on their technical expertise and industry experience to design effective HVAC solutions (green solutions – alternatives to gas i.e. geothermal, electric, hybrid) that meet customer needs and comply with industry regulations and standards.
What You'll Do Here:
- Lead thermal audits of the building to determine a thermal load profile and develop an understanding of the current operational characteristics of the HVAC solution in place. Propose multiple high level HVAC solutions to evaluate and weigh against client objectives with the selection of a single solution to move into the detailed design phase.
- Key deliverables of the preliminary design phase include a building thermal load profile (hourly annual), diagram/synoptic of current and proposed HVAC solutions, 2D plans of the technical room with HVAC network paths and equipment location and sizing, and cost/benefit analysis of proposed HVAC solutions.
- Key deliverables of the detailed design phase include written technical descriptions of the solution, equipment, and network paths in compliance with identified industry standards and applicable regulations, an exhaustive list of all system equipment by network to facilitate procurement, technical data sheets for all equipment including installation and operating instructions, functional analysis of the system by internal solution experts, and overall system installation instructions that can be carried out by external subcontractors within the required trade.
- Site visit to obtain necessary information for existing mechanical system for both residential & commercial projects. Develop proposals for potential customers for complete residential and commercial heating and cooling solutions during the various stages of the decision-making process and participate in discussions with various stake holders – architect, building mechanical engineer, HVAC equipment providers.
- Provide support during the installation, ensure integrity in the installation per design, and verify conformity with industry standards and applicable regulations.
- The HVAC Engineer should have strong technical experience and knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, especially heat pump technology (both Air Source and Ground Source), provincial Building Codes, and ANSI/CSA/IGSHPA C448-16 for designing and installing ground source heat pump systems for commercial and residential buildings to ensure that installations are compliant.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Post secondary education from a mechanical engineering program or within related field
- Minimum 10 years of system design experience in the HVAC industry for commercial and residential applications.
- The ability to travel for business across Ontario
- Practical experience in ground-source heat pump systems (geothermal) and air source heat pumps is required
- Proven experience of project support and delivery from design to installation to commissioning with worksite presence and exposure.
- Experience with HVAC solution design software such as Autodesk Revit, DesignBuilder, and CanecoONE.
- Knowledge and experience working with various load calculation tools such as TECA Quality First, HOT2000, Wrightsoft, Elite, LoopCad Pro, GLD, LoopLink.
- Working knowledge with various building mechanical systems such as heating, air conditioning, domestic hot water production, plumbing systems, control systems etc.
- Familiar with structural, architectural, HVAC and electrical specifications / models to fully understand space limitations and interferences.
- A clear understanding of HDPE fusion welding is an asset
- Knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, specifically Word and Excel.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
