Reporting to the General Manager, Renewables, the Substation Superintendent is responsible to ensure that projects are completed on schedule in compliance with the contracts, the job cost estimates and that all work is completed safely, to high standards of quality. The Superintendent also manages day-to-day operations at project sites and yards.
What You'll Do Here:
- Responsible for the overall planning and scheduling to ensure that projects are constructed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Monitor the overall progress of the projects and takes corrective action where necessary.
- Coordinate and monitor the three main functions – Administration, Scheduling and Construction.
- Represent the Company with the owner.
- Maintain communication with stakeholders and subcontractors of all extra work, claims and back charges.
- Ensure that contracts are kept current and being updated with change orders on a regular basis.
- Implement and monitor the Company’s Safety and Environment Policies and QC Plans.
- Oversee that all functions and operations on the job are following local legislative requirements.
- Directs and maintains communication and morale of the project staff.
- Ensure that Company policies and project procedures are being adhered to as well as compliance with union agreements, if applicable.
- Review and provide approval of project cost reports and verifies projected job profits are accurate and current.
- Assist in bid process.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Technical school background and at least ten years of Substation maintenance and construction experience.
- Experience in power distribution and transmission line work up to 230kV.
- Experience in the Utility Contracting Industry.
- Working computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of HV construction techniques, practices, and fundamentals.
- Experience with contract and subcontract management.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and work within a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time management.
- Maintain valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform shift work (e.g., 21/7, 14/7, 10/4, etc.).
- Ability to travel as required.
- Strong understanding Labor and union.
- Strong understanding of change management.
- Read and interpret master schedules and building 4 week look ahead with scheduling activities.
- Daily progress reporting.
