We are looking for a Technical Manager to support our mega infrastructure projects in the GTA who will be responsible for the preparation, implementation, and enforcement of the Technical Design Management Plan. The incumbent will coordinate all technical designs produced by the design team to ensure the design meets the requirements set out in the agreement.
What You’ll Do Here:
- First level of direct and sustained supervision of other professional engineers OR first level of full specialization. Requires application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects having scope for independent accomplishment and co-ordination of difficult and responsible assignments. Assigned problems make it necessary to modify established guides, devise new approaches, apply existing criteria in new ways, and draw conclusions from comparative situations.
- Ensures project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule, and company/project policies.
- Manages project plans, schedules, and estimates and cost controls for very large and complex projects.
- Reviews and evaluates technical work.
- Provides mentoring and coaching to other technical employees.
- Responsible for the financial performance of designated division to ensure business plans targets are being met.
- Accountable for all design project deliverables and resolution of project-level disputes.
- Maintains excellent relationships with owner, consultants, subcontractors & public.
- Adheres to Aecon’s Policy & Procedures Manual.
- Directs and manages multiple concurrent engineering projects, prepares and/or reviews designs, budgets, project status reports.
- Reports issues to senior management regarding financial performance, workload status, potential legal issues and potential opportunities.
- Responsible for hiring team of qualified staff to cover all aspects of the operation.
- Prepares staff development and succession plans for division staff.
- Provide design training and guidance to junior staff along with project engineer.
- Approves all expenditures and proposal pricing within limits of authority.
- Maintains personal contact with major customers/clients, prepares and/or presents business proposals, business development.
- Assists in preparing contracts with design sub-contractors.
- Liaison between Construction / Design and client.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.), normally with four plus years related working experience from the graduation level. Holds a P.Eng.
- Must be a Registered Professional Engineer and member in good standing with a Canadian provincial or territorial engineering association.
- Experience with and understanding of Engineered tools/equipment, automated systems, remote tooling systems
- Proficient in software related to construction industry as required (e.g. Primavera Scheduling software, AutoCAD, SAP etc.)
- Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- EPC and/or EPCM project knowledge and experience.
- Understanding of the Engineering Change Process.
- Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Flexibility to work in both field and office.
