Position Overview
Faster. Smarter. Safer. That’s how Aecon Energy Solutions Inc. (AESI) delivers projects. As we continue to grow as British Columbia’s leading utility construction provider, we are seeking experienced Equipment Operators to support our civil utility projects in urban environments.
This role involves operating heavy equipment on roadways in active city environments, often around live utilities, and includes work on gas distribution systems, hydro duct banks, and district energy infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment such as excavators, and back hoes
- Perform precision trenching and excavation around live utilities
- Install and work around shoring systems to ensure trench safety
- Support installation of underground utility infrastructure, including:
- Gas distribution lines
- Hydro duct banks
- District energy systems
- Assist with site preparation, material handling, and cleanup
- Work collaboratively with labourers and spotters to maintain safety and efficiency
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
Requirements and Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in civil or utility construction
- Proven experience working around live utilities and in roadway environments
- Familiarity with shoring systems, trench boxes, and confined space protocols
- Experience with gas, hydro, and district energy utility installations is a strong asset
- Ability to read grade plans and use grade stakes
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow verbal and hand signal directions
- Physically fit, with the ability to lift up to 25kg and work in all weather conditions
- Willingness to work extended hours and adapt to changing site conditions
- Valid driver’s license and clean abstract required
- MUST be fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Location: West Kelowna BC
Rate: $37.14 to $45.46 per hour
Overtime: 2 hours/day
Schedule: 5x2, Saturdays as required
