Company and Divisional Overview
The Student Estimator will have the opportunity to support our Major Projects West team in their process of bidding new work and working with the estimating team. This is a 4-month co-op placement located in our downtown Vancouver head office starting May 2025.
The student intern will have the following duties in this role:
- Being mentored by Senior and Estimating Directors in bidding projects including construction approach
- Pursuing various projects including a combination of bid-build, design-build and PPP projects ranging from bridges, tunnels, highways to water & wastewater treatment
- Working with estimate teams on bid preparations including
- Quantity takeoff and updating estimate software with quantities
- Subcontractor/Vendor solicitation
- Subcontractor/Vendor Quote comparisons
- Inserting quotes into estimate software
- Assisting with means and methods for project construction
- Assisting in design build process and working with design teams
- Preparing portions of estimates utilizing Hard Dollar Estimating software
- Participate in tender closing
- Working with partners estimating teams
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Currently enrolled in a university or technical college diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract is an asset.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
- Attention to detail, mathematical, analytical skills and accuracy.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external clients.
- Service orientation and ability to work effectively with a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
The expected pay range for this position is $23.00-$25.00 per hour.
